REPORTS TO: ER&R Fleet Supervisor

PAY GRADE: Full-Time (40 hours/week); Non-Exempt position, benefits apply

Salary Range: $22.68 - 25.37 per hour

BASIC FUNCTIONS - ON THE JOB TRAINING: Service and repair of County vehicles and road construction equipment. Application of mechanical skills and exercising independent judgment. Learning how to determine the proper action to correct malfunctions and repair equipment accordingly. Works cooperatively and effectively with the public and other employees. This position is non-exempt and subject to a collective bargaining agreement. 
 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position will be assigned a combination of job functions from among different job duties within this class or perform similar duties of similar responsibility and

  1. Service and repair diesel trucks, heavy equipment, light trucks, and passenger vehicles both in the shop and in the field.
  2. Diagnosis of equipment failures using computers, analyzers, and scanners.
  3. Work safely and contribute to a safe work environment.
  4. Assisting other employees as needed.
  5. Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Have some experience repairing and servicing heavy equipment or light trucks and passenger vehicles.
  3.  Have some experience using computers, analyzers, and scanners for diagnostics.
  4. Good physical condition, as this position requires some heavy manual labor.
  5. Ability to work flexible schedules. 
  6. Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, a background check, and a driving record check. 
     

EMPLOYER EXPECTATIONS: (County will help provide training)

  1. Must obtain Class B CDL within one year
  2. Must obtain at least one, if not more, automotive ASE Certification within one year
  3. Must work towards a welding certification within one year

WORKING CONDITIONS: Routinely stands, bends, sits, kneels, and/or squats in awkward positions on hard surfaces for extended periods: walks, climbs and/or crawls up or down inclines, stairs, ladders, etc. sometimes while carrying, pulling, pushing and/or lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds. Exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and/or extreme weather conditions can be expected. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Because of the nature of this position, duties must be performed during regular hours within the department.

Work hours and workdays may vary. Occasionally work extended hours, varied starting times, on weekends and holidays, and on overtime, sometimes with little or no notice.
